The Knife Shear Test
Crimsafe security screens set the benchmark for strength because they easily pass the Australian Standard Knife Shear Test. This strength comes from Crimsafe’s exclusive Tensile-Tuff® stainless steel mesh, which is 26.5% thicker than standard stainless steel mesh. As a result, Crimsafe leads the industry in both durability and protection.
To put it into perspective, the knife shear test uses a heavy-duty trimming knife pulled across the mesh with a force of up to 350N (35kg), while a constant downward pressure of 150N (15kg) is applied over a 250mm distance.
In addition, the test is performed three times along the same line, and a new blade is fitted each time. For this reason, to achieve a passing result, the mesh must not be cut through in a continuous line longer than 150mm.

The Jemmy Test
All Crimsafe products consistently meet Australian Standards in every section of the lever attack test, commonly known as the jemmy test. This means Crimsafe security screens deliver proven strength against forced entry attempts.
Specifically, the Australian Standard requires a rotational force of up to 450N (45kg) to be applied and held for 20 seconds at every locking, hinging, and fastening point around the security screen.
During this test, technicians insert a large screwdriver at these points and mechanically rotate it until either the required force is reached or an 80° rotation occurs.
To pass, a security screen door must remain locked and secure, while a window security screen must stay firmly fastened to the window it protects. As a result, Crimsafe proves its ability to withstand serious break-in attempts and keep your home safe.
